Description

A deity you carry close, pressed in brass and colour above the heart. Chaturbhuja, the four-armed form of Ganesha, has been a beloved motif in Indian devotional jewellery for centuries, appearing on everything from temple doors to the chests of queens. Here, the figure is rendered in warm-toned brass, its surface finished to evoke the antique lustre of old ritual objects. Each of the four arms is carefully articulated, and the entire form is studded with coloured stones set in the manner of bazuband jewellery from Rajasthan, where artisans have long understood that devotion and decoration are not separate languages. The brooch measures approximately 7.1 cm in height by 5.1 cm in width and weighs a substantial 45 grams, giving it the satisfying presence of a collector's piece rather than a trinket. Pin this to the centre of a deep-red Banarasi silk blouse for a wedding or puja celebration, where the brass tones will warm against woven gold zari. Equally arresting on the lapel of a cream raw-silk kurta for Diwali gatherings, where it reads as considered devotion rather than costume. The free-size brooch fastens with a standard pin-back closure suitable for most fabrics of medium to heavy weight. The brass construction resists everyday wear well; a gentle wipe with a soft cloth keeps the stone settings bright and the finish intact season after season.
