Description

Nine stones, one intention: to hold the cosmos on a single finger. The Navaratna is among the oldest jewellery canons in the subcontinent, each of its nine gemstones corresponding to a celestial body, a colour and a blessing. Here, that ancient grammar is rendered in sterling silver, a metal whose cool, bright surface allows each stone to assert its own chromatic voice without competition. The ring rises to a height of sixteen millimetres, giving the cluster setting a confident presence that reads from across a room. At eight grams, it sits with the quiet authority of a piece that knows its own weight. The stones are set in an arrangement faithful to the traditional Navaratna mandala, at the centre a ruby-red stone ringed by eight companions: pearl-white, coral, hessonite, blue sapphire, cat's eye, yellow sapphire, emerald and diamond substitutes, each captured in slim silver bezels that hold them close and secure. For daytime, pair it with a hand-woven cotton silk saree in ivory or saffron, letting the ring carry the colour. In the evening, it translates equally well against the deep embroidery of a Benarasi blouse or the understated silk of a kurta at a festive family gathering. Available in size ten and weighing a considered eight grams, the ring's sterling silver base is hypoallergenic enough for daily wear. The smooth band and secure bezel settings mean the piece travels from morning to celebration without fuss or adjustment.
