Description

There is a particular stillness in a ring that asks nothing of you except to be noticed. Kundan is among the oldest inlay traditions of the Indian subcontract, carried forward across the ateliers of Jaipur where craftsmen press refined wax and lac beneath glass stones and foils to create settings of extraordinary depth. This ring follows that lineage faithfully. The base is brass, chosen for its warm, gold-like tone and its ability to hold the lac bed securely through seasons of wear. Set in the Kundan manner, flat-cut stones sit flush within their foiled cells, each one encased in fine metal strips pressed by hand around the perimeter. The result is a surface that catches light not with sparkle but with a slow, interior glow, very much in the Mughal decorative spirit from which Kundan jewellery historically draws its character and its restraint. Wear it with a hand-embroidered kurta at a daytime mehendi, or let it anchor the simplicity of a raw-silk sari blouse at an evening celebration where you want one quiet, deliberate accent rather than many competing ones. The ring weighs seventeen grams, a substantive presence on the hand without heaviness. Brass carries a warm patina over time and benefits from occasional gentle cleaning with a dry cloth. As with all Kundan pieces, avoid prolonged contact with water to preserve the integrity of the lac setting and the foiling beneath the stones.
