Description

There are deities one wears for devotion, and there are those one wears because they are simply, quietly beautiful. This small Ganesha pendant is cast in sterling silver, the motif rendered with the restraint that distinguishes devotional silverwork at its most considered. At just half an inch in height (approximately 1.3 cm) and three tenths of an inch across (approximately 0.8 cm), the form is intimate rather than declarative: the elephant visage, the gentle rotundity of the body, the suggestion of the trunk curving inward, all held within a silhouette no larger than a thumbnail. The silver carries a burnished finish that catches light softly, without the harshness of high polish, lending the piece the quiet authority of something worn daily and kept close. Weighing only 1.63 grams, it sits featherlight against the skin, the loop at the crown accepting a fine chain with ease. A pendant this considered asks for equally considered company. Wear it on a delicate sterling chain with a cream handloom kurta for a morning puja or a family gathering; or thread it onto a black silk cord and let it rest against a deep-toned silk blouse for festive evenings when understatement says more than ornament. The piece comes in free size, requiring no adjustment. Sterling silver of this weight is sturdy enough for daily wear and develops a gentle patina with time. A soft silver-polishing cloth restores its original warmth whenever you wish.
