Description

There are silences in silver that lapis lazuli has always known how to fill. This ring is wrought in sterling silver, its face rising to a height of 0.8 inches (approximately 2 cm), the entire piece weighing a considered 4.9 grams, substantial without ever feeling heavy on the hand. At its centre sits a cabochon of lapis lazuli, that ancient Afghani blue shot through with the gold flecks of pyrite inclusions, held in a bezel setting that lets the stone breathe rather than trapping it beneath claws. The silverwork around it is clean and architectural, the band tapering gently toward the shank so the eye is drawn always back to that deep, celestial blue. It is the kind of ring that belongs to no single tradition yet feels at home beside antique Rajasthani silver and the quieter end of Bengal's metalwork sensibility, pieces made to last and to mean something. Wear it with a handwoven cotton kurta in ivory or grey and it will do the talking for the whole outfit. It sits equally well against the wrist of a silk sari blouse for a dinner where understatement is the most elegant choice. Available in size 8, this ring is finished in a brushed-bright sterling that resists tarnish with modest care. A gentle wipe with a dry cloth after wear keeps both the silver and the lapis at their best. Its weight and proportions make it genuinely comfortable for all-day wear.
