Description

There are prayers one carries in the heart, and prayers one carries close to it. Wrought in sterling silver, this pendant is designed as a miniature book, its cover bearing the image of Maa Durga, patron of courage and cosmic order. Measuring 1.9 inches by 2.5 inches (approximately 4.8 cm by 6.4 cm) and weighing a considered 33.6 grams, it opens to reveal the full text of the Durga Chalisa within its pages, a devotional object as much as an ornament. The tradition of enclosing sacred scripture within wearable silver forms is ancient across India, from the talismanic silver carriers of Rajasthan to the prayer-box pendants of South Indian temple jewellery. Here, that lineage is expressed with quiet restraint: a smooth, burnished sterling silver finish, clean edges, and a surface weight that feels purposeful rather than ornamental. The same pendant is also available housing the Hanuman Chalisa, Shani Chalisa, and Shiva Chalisa, allowing the wearer to choose her devotion. Worn on a long silver chain over a silk kurta during morning puja or a festival gathering, it settles naturally at the sternum. Equally, it grounds an ivory or cream salwar ensemble for occasions that call for sacred intention rather than spectacle. The free-size bail fits most chains up to a modest thickness. The solid sterling silver construction resists tarnishing with ordinary care, making this a pendant suited to daily wear by those for whom faith is not occasional.
