Description

She who vanquishes darkness, held in silver, worn close to the heart. Maa Durga's face emerges from sterling silver in a pendant that belongs to a long tradition of devotional silverwork practised across Bengal and the temple towns of South India. The goddess is rendered in high relief, her serene yet formidable visage framed by an ornate aureole suggesting the radiance that iconography has always accorded her. The silver itself carries a warm, worked finish consistent with hand-finishing rather than machine polish, giving the surface a quiet depth that flat castings rarely achieve. Weighing 4.85 grams, the piece is substantial enough to read with clarity, yet light enough for daily devotion. At 1.25 inches in height and 0.7 inches in width (approximately 3.2 cm by 1.8 cm), the scale is intimate, neither miniature nor overstated. Thread it onto a fine sterling silver chain for Navratri pujas, worn over a silk Chanderi kurta in ivory or deep crimson; equally poised against the neckline of a plain cotton sari on an ordinary Tuesday when the act of wearing is itself a small prayer. The pendant is free-sized in that it accepts any standard chain or cord, making it practical across wardrobes. The sterling silver construction resists tarnish with basic care, and the modest weight ensures comfortable all-day wear without strain on the neck or chain.
