Description

There are devotions that travel quietly, held close to the chest, offered without ceremony. Khatu Shyam, the folk deity of Rajasthan venerated across northern India as Shyam Baba, is rendered here in sterling silver with the gravity that only hand-worked metal can carry. The pendant measures 1.3 inches in height by 0.75 inches in width (approximately 3.3 cm by 1.9 cm), its proportions compact and considered, the silhouette shaped to hold the deity's distinctive iconography without crowding it. At 6.7 grams, the silver has real presence without heaviness. Sterling silver, worked and finished to a warm matte or polished tone depending on the maker's hand, has long been the preferred metal for devotional pendants in Rajasthani craft traditions, valued for its purity and its willingness to hold fine surface detail. This is not temple jewellery in the ornate southern sense, but it carries the same intent: a wearable act of faith, quietly made. Pair it with a plain cotton kurta for daily prayer or a quiet puja morning. On festive occasions, it sits with equal ease against the neckline of a Banarasi or chanderi, anchored by a silver chain. The free-size pendant suits a chain of standard width, and its modest footprint means it rests comfortably on most necklines. Sterling silver, with gentle care, deepens in character over years of wear, the metal holding its story without demanding attention.
