Description

She rides the lion, and the silver remembers every line of her. Cast in sterling silver and finished to a warm, oxidised lustre, this pendant places Durga Maa in her Simhavahini form: goddess mounted on her lion, serene and sovereign. The figural relief is worked with quiet confidence, the detailing of her crown, her multiple arms and the muscular leonine body beneath her rendered with the kind of unhurried attention that belongs to the devotional silversmithing traditions of Bengal and Odisha, where sacred iconography is treated as a form of prayer rather than ornament. At one and a quarter inches tall by just under an inch wide (approximately 3.2 cm by 2.2 cm) and weighing 5.3 grams, the piece sits close to the body without weight or fuss. The oxidised finish deepens the carved contours, making the goddess emerge from the silver as though lit from within. Wear it on a fine silver chain over a white chanderi kurta for a morning that carries intention, or thread it on a black silk cord and let it rest against the neckline of a midnight-blue cotton sari for an evening that asks for something quietly sacred. The pendant comes at free size, designed to suit chains and cords of varying gauges. Sterling silver at this weight is everyday-hardy; a soft cloth is all it needs to hold its depth and glow across years of faithful wearing.
