Description

There are deities one wears close to the skin, and then there are deities one carries as a kind of private devotion. This pendant brings together all ten forms of the Dashamahavidya within a single sterling silver composition measuring 2.20 inches in height (approximately 5.59 cm) by 1.05 inches in width (approximately 2.67 cm). The Dashamahavidya, those ten tantric manifestations of Devi from Kali to Kamala, have long been a subject of devotional silverwork across Bengal and Odisha, where silversmiths render their iconography with a reverence bordering on liturgical precision. Here, the figures are worked in relief against a plain silver ground, the metal given a considered oxidised finish that deepens each carved line and makes the goddesses legible at a glance. At 12 grams, the piece carries real weight in the hand, consistent with the density of genuine sterling silver. Against a cream or ivory silk kurta at a puja gathering, this pendant reads as an act of quiet faith rather than ornamentation. It sits equally well over a plain white linen shirt for the diaspora wearer who finds devotion in daily dress. The free-size bail accommodates most chains up to a medium gauge. The oxidised finish resists casual tarnish well and benefits from occasional wiping with a soft dry cloth. A piece this considered asks only to be worn with intention.
