Description

There is a quietness to silver that gold cannot always claim. This pendant is worked in sterling silver, its face carved into a full-bloom flower whose petals radiate outward with the unhurried confidence of hand-cut relief. Carving on silver demands a steady hand and an instinct for depth: the karigar works into the metal itself, coaxing dimension from a flat sheet rather than building up with wire or granulation. The result is a surface that catches light at varying angles, the raised petal ridges luminous against the recessed ground. At one and a half inches tall and one point three inches wide (approximately 3.8 cm by 3.3 cm), and weighing a substantial fifteen point six four grams, the pendant has presence without being theatrical. The finish is polished to a bright mirror shine, letting the carved motif speak without distraction. This is the tradition of the silversmith, practised across Rajasthan and Bengal alike, where flower forms carry both devotional and decorative meaning. Worn on a fine silver chain, it suits an ivory chanderi kurta at an afternoon gathering, where its relief carving reads beautifully in natural light. For evening, it lifts a deep bottle-green or indigo silk blouse worn with a sari. The free-size bail accommodates most chain thicknesses. Sterling silver does require occasional polishing to maintain its brightness, but the weight and solidity of this piece reward that small effort with years of wear.
