Description

There are devotions that do not end at the shrine door; they travel with you. Cast in sterling silver and weighing a precise five grams, this circular pendant of one inch diameter (approximately 2.5 cm) carries Sri Sudarshana Chakrathalwar on its face: the six-armed, wheel-bearing form of Vishnu's divine discus, rendered with the fineness that South Indian temple-silver tradition demands. The reverse holds a yantra, the geometric sacred diagram that transforms the pendant into a talisman as much as an ornament. The silver is worked to a bright polish that catches light the way a sanctified object should, the chakra's radiating spokes articulated cleanly against the disc's circumference. This is the idiom of Nagercoil and the temple-town silversmiths of Tamil Nadu, where devotional jewellery is made not merely to be worn but to be witnessed. Wear it on a fine silver chain against a Kanjivaram silk blouse for a festival puja, or thread it on a black waxed cord for everyday wear with a crisp cotton kurta, where its quiet gravity reads as intention rather than ornament. At one inch across, the pendant sits neatly at the décolletage without overwhelming a neckline. The sterling silver holds its lustre well with minimal care, and the piece's modest weight ensures it lies flat and still through a long day's wearing.
