Description

There are webs that trap, and there are webs that hold something precious at their centre. This pendant is wrought entirely in sterling silver, its structure built around the geometry of a spider's web: radiating lines that pull the eye inward to a matrix of turquoise held fast at the heart. The stone is spider-web turquoise, so named for the dark veining that maps across its surface like ink pressed into ice, and no two pieces carry the same pattern. The silverwork itself belongs to a long tradition of artisanal southwestern-influenced silver jewellery that has found devoted practitioners across Indian craft corridors, where the metal is oxidised or burnished to throw the webbed frame into sharp relief. At 40 grams and measuring roughly 4.8 centimetres in height by 3 centimetres in width by 1.7 centimetres in depth, the piece has genuine presence without becoming unwieldy. Wear it against a cream chanderi kurta for an afternoon gathering where the blue-green of the stone does the speaking. It is equally at home with a white linen shirt and wide-leg trousers, lending an editorial edge to a considered everyday look. The pendant arrives in free size, designed to suit any chain or cord of standard gauge. Sterling silver at this weight holds its form well and requires only occasional polishing with a soft cloth to maintain its lustre. The depth ensures the stone sits with a slight forward tilt, giving the piece its sculptural, three-dimensional character.
