Description

A reliquary shaped like devotion itself, cast in sterling silver and worn close to the heart. The ghau is one of the oldest portable shrines in the Himalayan and Tibetan Buddhist tradition, a hinged locket-box designed to hold a sacred image or blessed scroll. This piece translates that ancient form into sterling silver, its façade ornamented with a heart motif that softens the geometry of the rectangular reliquary body without diluting its spiritual gravity. At 7 cm tall, 7 cm wide and 3.5 cm in depth, it carries genuine volume and presence, the 90-gram weight a reminder that this is a silversmith's considered labour, not a pressed souvenir. The surface treatment appears oxidised or antiqued, deepening the relief work so that every decorative element reads with shadow and contrast. The reverse panel is hinged, allowing the interior cavity to receive whatever the wearer holds sacred, a photograph, a folded prayer, a fragment of blessing. Wear it on a long oxidised silver chain over a hand-loomed Chanderi kurta for a quiet, considered festive look; or layer it above a high-necked merino sweater when travelling somewhere that calls for both warmth and meaning. Free-sized and pendant-only, it suits any chain with an appropriate bail gauge. The sterling silver construction means it will not tarnish aggressively with regular wear, and the hinged mechanism, built to last, rewards occasional polishing with a soft silver cloth to restore its depth of finish.
