Description

There are devotions that travel quietly, close to the heart. Khatu Shyam, the folk form of Krishna venerated across Rajasthan and beyond, is rendered here in sterling silver with a gravity that feels neither ornate nor spare. The pendant carries the deity's characteristic countenance within a shaped frame, the silver worked to bring out fine surface relief in the face and surround. At roughly 1.3 inches in height (approximately 3.3 cm) and 1 inch in width (approximately 2.5 cm), this is a considered proportion: present enough to be seen, restrained enough to be worn without ceremony. The metal is sterling silver throughout, and at 5.9 grams it settles with a satisfying density against the skin. The finish holds the warmth of oxidised detailing in the recesses, giving the relief its quiet depth and allowing the devotional iconography to read with clarity. Wear it on a slim silver chain with a white cotton kurta for daily puja mornings, or layer it over a pale silk blouse on festive occasions when the devotion is as much a part of the dressing as the drape itself. The pendant comes in free size and is suited to any chain weight or length its wearer prefers. The sterling silver will age honestly, deepening slightly over time and polishing back to brightness with a soft cloth. This is a piece for keeping, not just wearing.
