Description

There are faces that do not merely decorate; they protect. Shree Kashtabhanjan, the beloved form of Hanuman enshrined at Sarangpur in Gujarat, is rendered here in sterling silver with a devotion that belongs to a long tradition of votive portraiture in Indian metalwork. The face is cast and hand-finished, capturing the warrior-saint's resolute gaze within an oval medallion that weighs just 6.64 grams and measures approximately 2.9 centimetres in height by 2 centimetres in width. Two finish choices govern the mood entirely: Polish returns the silver to a bright, almost mirror-like luminosity, extending the pendant to 2.9 centimetres in height, while Vintage coaxes a warm, antiqued patina from the metal, deepening every contoured line around the eyes, brow and mane, so the face reads as something retrieved from a family shrine rather than newly made. Wear the Polish finish against a cream silk kurta on Hanuman Jayanti or any Tuesday of consequence. The Vintage finish sits equally well at the throat of a handloom cotton sari when the occasion calls for quiet, grounded faith rather than ornament. The pendant arrives in free size, meaning the bail accepts most standard chains and strings, from a fine silver box chain to a black silk cord. At under seven grams, it rests without weight on the chest all day, the silver cool and clean against skin, requiring nothing more than occasional gentle polishing to hold its character.
