Description

There are prayers that are not spoken aloud but worn close to the chest. The trishul rises at the centre, its three prongs a silvered rendering of Shiva's sovereign instrument, flanked by the compact silhouette of the damru and cradled against the textured roundness of a rudraksha bead. Cast and finished in sterling silver, the pendant carries the devotional grammar of South Indian temple craft and the votive jewellery traditions long practised in pilgrimage towns from Varanasi to Rameswaram. The silver is left with a warm, slightly antiqued finish that lets light settle into the recesses of each form rather than bounce off a polished surface. At 1.2 inches in height by 0.8 inches in width (roughly 3 cm by 2 cm) and weighing 4.24 grams, the piece is compact enough to read as quietly personal rather than declarative. Worn on a fine silver chain over a white kurta for a morning puja, or layered at the collar of a linen shirt on Shivratri, it carries its symbolism without performance. It sits equally well against a plain cotton tee for those who carry their faith as an everyday companion rather than an occasion. The free-size bail fits most standard chains. The sterling silver will develop a gentle patina over time, which only deepens its character; a soft cloth restores the brightness whenever desired. At 4.24 grams, it rests lightly and stays in place through a full day's wear.
