Description

There are devotions that need no words, only the weight of silver at the throat. This pendant brings together two of Shaivism's most potent symbols: the lingam, ancient axis of cosmic consciousness, sheltered beneath a cobra whose coiled hood arches upward as a living chattra. The naga, rendered in sterling silver with careful attention to scale and sinew, does not merely decorate the lingam but guards it, echoing the iconography found across South Indian temple traditions and the devotional silverwork of Nagercoil's skilled craftsmen. The silver has a burnished, oxidised quality that settles into the relief carving, sharpening the serpent's hood and the lingam's form against shadow. At 1.3 inches tall by 1.15 inches wide (roughly 3.3 cm by 2.9 cm) and weighing 9 grams, it sits close and quietly at the chest. Wear it on a plain silk thread or a fine sterling chain against a Kanjeevaram silk blouse for a festival or puja visit, where the iconography reads with full intention. It works equally well over a simple white kurta on an ordinary Monday, a private acknowledgement of faith worn without ceremony. The free-size bail accommodates most chain gauges and thicknesses. Sterling silver at this weight is comfortable for all-day wear, light enough to forget and present enough to notice. Store it away from moisture to preserve the oxidised finish that gives the carving its depth.
