Description
There are devotions that do not need words, only form. This brooch gathers the entire grammar of Shaiva worship into a single, vertical composition: the linga resting within its kalash, the trishul rising above, a rudraksha bead worked into the frame and the Om rendered in relief against antiqued brass. The piece draws on a long tradition of devotional jewellery made for pilgrims and believers across temple towns from Varanasi to Nagercoil, where brass has always been the chosen metal for sacred objects, its warm ochre tone close in spirit to the hue of camphor smoke and marigold garlands. At two and a half inches tall and just over an inch and a third wide (approximately 6.2 cm by 3.4 cm) and weighing 12.1 grams, the brooch is substantial enough to carry intent without becoming heavy. Pin it to the drape of a silk sari at a Maha Shivaratri puja or on the lapel of a cream Nehru jacket at a Shravan gathering. It reads equally well on the breast pocket of a kurta worn to a temple visit, where its devotional iconography speaks quietly and with conviction. The brooch is offered in a single free size, the pin fastening designed to secure cleanly through most woven fabrics. The antiqued brass finish requires no special maintenance and will deepen gently with time, the way all devotional objects ought to.
