Description

Divinity rendered in silver, small enough to rest at the heart. In the temple jewellery tradition that stretches from the gopuram towns of Tamil Nadu to the silver workshops of Bengal, the deity herself is the ornament. Here, Goddess Lakshmi is depicted seated in her classical posture, the form worked entirely in sterling silver with the fine surface relief and chased detailing that define devotional silversmithing at its most considered. The silhouette stands at 1.15 inches, or approximately 2.9 centimetres, and weighs a precise 5.8 grams: substantial enough to carry the intricacy of the motif without burdening the neckline. The silver has been worked to bring forward the goddess's lotus throne, her four arms, and the ornamental framing typical of temple iconography, where the border is as sacred as the figure within. Wear this on a fine sterling or oxidised silver chain with an ivory or madder cotton kurta for a puja morning, where its devotional character reads quietly and correctly. Equally, it companions a silk blouse and draped sari at a festive gathering, the pale silver catching candlelight against deeper fabrics. Free size by nature, the pendant suits any chain gauge you already own, and its 5.8 gram weight means comfortable all-day wear. Sterling silver requires only an occasional soft cloth to restore its warmth, and the piece stores well in an anti-tarnish pouch between wearings.
