Description

There are forms so auspicious they do not need gold to carry weight. This seated Chaturbhuja Ganesha brooch renders the Vighnaharta in his most complete aspect: four arms bearing his characteristic attributes, the modaka and the broken tusk among them, the rounded silhouette of repose captured in warm-toned brass. At 1.8 inches in height and 1.35 inches in width (roughly 4.6 cm by 3.4 cm), the piece is compact yet unhurried in its detail. Brass has long been the devotional metal of workshop and temple alike, its amber warmth a natural companion to sacred iconography. The surface carries the characteristic density of cast and hand-finished brasswork, where depth of relief does the work that inlay might elsewhere perform. This is a brooch in the tradition of wearable devotion, worn as intention rather than ornament. Pin it to the left shoulder of a raw-silk kurta for a morning puja or a festive family gathering. It reads equally well against the fall of a handloom cotton dupatta draped over formal Indian occasion wear. At free size and approximately 18.2 grams, the brooch sits flat without pulling at fabric. The standard pin fastening at the reverse is suited to medium-weight textiles. The brass finish, left to age naturally, will deepen in warmth over time, which is precisely the point.
