Description

There is a quietness to blue that only sapphire knows how to hold. Each strand in this piece carries seven faceted sapphire beads, each cut to approximately 7 mm, their surfaces angled to catch and scatter light in the cool, particular way that only a true precious stone can manage. The beads are strung along a 3-inch (7.6 cm) length, a format that speaks to the Indian tradition of loose precious stone strands used for layering, for spacing, or for building a necklace of one's own devising. The faceted cut is not decorative vanity; it is a practical act of revealing depth, coaxing the interior blue of the sapphire from slate to cornflower depending on what falls upon it. At 4.6 grams across the strand, the weight is honest and grounding, the kind that reminds the wearer something real rests at the collarbone. Worn alone against an ivory silk kurta, these seven beads read as considered restraint. Layered between gold chains and Polki pendants for a wedding mehendi, they anchor the ensemble with colour that does not compete but deepens everything around it. Free-sized and strung for versatility, this strand is designed to be incorporated rather than worn as a finished necklace. It suits both a jeweller adding to a bespoke commission and a collector who prefers to compose her own adornment, piece by unhurried piece.
