Description
Two horses, cast in brass, carry the weight of an old court's memory. Measuring 2.1 inches (5.3 cm) in height and 2.7 inches (6.9 cm) in width, this twin-horse brooch belongs to the antique revival tradition that flourished in the workshops of Rajasthan, where brass was never considered a lesser metal but rather the honest ground on which narrative jewellery was built. The mirrored equine forms face outward in heraldic symmetry, their surfaces worked to an aged, burnished finish that recalls the oxidised pieces once pinned to durbari shawls and ceremonial stoles. No stone interrupts the composition; the drama is entirely sculptural, a confidence that only assured making allows. The proportions are bold without being excessive, and the brass carries a warm, ochre-toned patina that deepens under candlelight. Pin it at the centre of a heavy Benarasi dupatta folded over one shoulder, or wear it against the lapel of a structured Nehru-collar jacket in ivory cotton for a fusion occasion that reads as considered rather than costumed. It sits equally well on a vintage-inspired velvet evening stole. The brooch is free size by nature, its standard pin-back fitting securing cleanly to most medium-weight fabrics. Brass of this gauge holds its form well with minimal care; a soft dry cloth is sufficient to maintain the antique finish. At its price point, it offers genuine craft at an honest scale.
