Description

There are devotions too quietly fervent for gold, and brass holds them just as well. This circular pendant carries the trishul and damru together within its round frame, a pairing that belongs to the iconographic language of Shaivism. The trishul, Shiva's three-pronged weapon representing the trimurti, and the damru, the hour-glass drum that sounded at creation, are rendered with considered detail in cast brass. Brass has long been the metal of temple precincts and daily puja across India, its warm ochre tone carrying a weight of sanctity that precious metals sometimes obscure. The circular silhouette, measuring approximately 2.5 cm in height and 2.15 cm in width, gives the motif a mandala-like containment. At just 1.5 grams, the piece sits close to the skin without pull or pressure. The finish is as-cast, unfussy and honest, the kind of surface that deepens with wear rather than diminishing. Wear it on a black waxed cord against a plain white kurta for everyday devotion, or thread it onto a delicate gold-filled chain when dressing for Mahashivratri or a temple visit. It layers quietly beneath a silk dupatta without snagging, and the warm brass reads well against ivory, saffron and deep green. Free-sized with a standard pendant bail, it suits any chain gauge a wearer already owns. The low weight makes it comfortable through long hours of wearing. Brass, if kept dry and occasionally wiped, holds its tone for years.
