Description

There are evenings when a single ring carries the weight of a whole tradition. This cocktail ring belongs to the world of Kundan, a setting craft refined over centuries in the ateliers of Jaipur, where thin gold foils and lac-set stones were once the preserve of Mughal courts. Here, that language is translated into brass, a metal long favoured for its warmth and workability, making the piece accessible without sacrificing the visual authority of the form. A circular face, measuring roughly 2.7 cm in height and 3.8 cm in width, is set with a central round Kundan stone encircled by smaller stones in the same tradition, each pressed firmly into its bezel so the surface reads as continuous, pooled light. The brass beneath is finished to complement the stones rather than compete with them. At nineteen grams, the ring sits with satisfying presence on the hand without pulling at the finger. Wear it at a festive lunch with a silk chanderi kurta in ivory or soft gold, where the ring becomes the one considered detail. It works equally well over a draped chiffon sari at an evening gathering, where the circular motif catches candlelight with quiet authority. The adjustable shank means the ring opens gently at the back to accommodate most finger sizes, requiring no resizing. Brass, properly cared for and kept away from moisture, holds its finish well over time, making this a piece that rewards the attention given to it.
