Description

There are silences in silver that speak louder than gold. This rectangular pendant is worked in sterling silver, its proportions deliberate and unhurried: 2.15 inches (roughly 5.5 cm) in height and 1.3 inches (roughly 3.3 cm) across, with a total weight of 39 grams that settles with quiet authority at the throat. At its centre sits a turquoise cabochon, that sky-and-earth stone beloved by silversmiths across Rajasthan and the tribal ateliers of the northwest, where artisans have long understood that the mineral's chalky blue-green body asks for silver, never gold. The bezel setting cradles the stone cleanly, the sterling frame burnished to a finish that catches light without demanding it. The geometry is architectural rather than ornamental, a rectangle that references the older tradition of amulet pendants worn as talismans, stripped here of devotional excess and left as pure form. Worn on a long oxidised silver chain, this pendant lifts a cream or ivory kurta into something considered and complete. It sits equally well against a fine white linen shirt for a gallery opening or an afternoon at a heritage craft fair, where its restrained presence reads as knowledge rather than statement. The free-size bail accommodates chains of most widths. Sterling silver at this weight is substantial enough to resist daily bending, and the bezel-set turquoise is secure for regular wear. A gentle polish with a soft cloth keeps the silver's quiet lustre. No resizing is required.
