Description

There is a particular honesty in stone left almost as the earth gave it. This long pendant necklace, item LDF424, is built in brass and speaks the language of raw-cut jewellery: cabochon stones set without the apology of heavy prong work, their domed, unpolished surfaces catching light the way a riverbed does rather than a chandelier. The setting technique follows a tradition of artisan brass work seen across Rajasthan and parts of Bengal, where the metal itself is valued for its warm, aged ochre tone rather than treated as a stand-in for gold. Each stone sits in a bezel or collet-style hold, its irregular silhouette celebrated rather than corrected. At 160 grams, the piece carries genuine presence on the body, and its 21-inch length (approximately 53 cm) places the pendant squarely at the sternum, where long necklaces have always done their most considered work. Wear this against a raw-silk kurta in ivory or saffron, and the brass reads almost antique, almost ceremonial. It sits equally well over a fluid linen co-ord for an art-fair afternoon or a gallery evening, where restraint and materiality matter more than occasion dressing. Free-sized and designed to fall straight without a fussy clasp adjustment, the necklace suits most necklines and requires little more than an occasional wipe with a soft cloth to preserve its warm, burnished finish.
