Description

There are meditations you carry with you, and some you wear. This pendant renders the seated Buddha in sterling silver, his posture one of perfect stillness, framed by an aureole that catches light with a brushed and polished finish. At the centre of the composition, a precious red gemstone draws the eye inward, its colour recalling the deep rubies favoured in devotional jewellery across Buddhist and Hindu traditions alike. The form belongs to a lineage of sacred silver craft practised with quiet rigour in workshops across Bengal and the hills of the North-East, where silversmiths have long worked figural religious motifs with an attention to expression and proportion that no machine can replicate. The piece measures two inches in height by one inch in width (approximately five centimetres by two and a half centimetres) and weighs a considered twenty-four grams, giving it a satisfying, grounded presence without heaviness. Wear it on a fine sterling box chain over a cream handloom kurta for a morning of quiet purpose, or let it rest against a silk blouse at an evening gathering where the red stone reads as something close to ceremony. The free-size bail accommodates chains of varying thickness, making it simple to layer or wear alone. Sterling silver at this weight resists bending and retains its form through daily use; a soft cloth is all that is needed to restore its quiet lustre between wearings.
