Description

There are silences in silver that only a master craftsman knows how to fill. This pendant draws on the long Persian tradition of setting robins-egg turquoise within oxidised sterling silver, a practice that travelled through the courts of Persia into the bazaars of Rajasthan and never quite lost its aristocratic composure. The stone itself, a deep sky-blue specimen characteristic of the Nishapur mines of Iran, is held within a repoussé or engraved silver surround whose organic, almost floral geometry honours the arabesque sensibility of Islamic decorative art. At two inches in height and two inches in width (approximately five centimetres by five centimetres), the pendant commands presence without demanding attention. Weighing a substantial fifty-four grams, the sterling silver construction has the satisfying heft of something made slowly and with intention. The oxidised finish deepens every incised line, throwing the turquoise into brilliant relief against charcoal-toned metal. Wear it over a raw-silk ivory kurta for a literary festival or cultural evening, where its quiet authority speaks before you do. It works equally well layered over a fine cotton block-print sari blouse for a festive afternoon gathering, anchoring the look without competing with a woven border. The pendant is offered as a single free-size piece, designed to sit on a cord or chain of your choosing. The oxidised sterling silver requires only a soft cloth to restore its lustre, and the sealed stone setting makes it a comfortable companion for regular wear.
