Description

She guards the threshold between the seen and the unseen, and now she rests at your collarbone. Periyachi Amman is a fierce, protective form of Parvati venerated primarily in Tamil Nadu and among Tamil communities across the world, her iconography rooted in the ancient temple traditions of the deep South. This sterling silver pendant renders her with the fierce composure her mythology demands: a bold, frontal face, her attributes held with authority, cast and hand-finished to bring every detail of her visage into quiet relief. Sterling silver was the metal of choice for votive objects long before gold claimed precedence in devotional craft, and here it serves the same sacred purpose, its cool brightness lending the goddess an almost moonlit presence. The piece weighs 12.7 grams and measures approximately 4.3 cm in height and 2.9 cm in width, a substantial, wearable icon rather than a token. Wear her on a fine oxidised silver chain against a deep red Kanjivaram silk at a Tamil wedding or a festival puja, where her protective gaze feels most at home. She is equally arresting against the collar of a linen kurta for a quieter, everyday act of devotion. The free-size pendant suits all neck lengths depending on the chain chosen. The sterling silver finish requires only occasional gentle polishing to maintain its lustre. At this weight, it lies flat and secure, a piece made to be worn with conviction, not merely admired.
