Description

There are sounds the hand has always known how to hold. The syllable Om, or Aum, is perhaps the oldest symbol in the subcontinent's visual vocabulary, and here it is rendered in sterling silver with the quiet confidence of a craftsman who has nothing to prove. The motif rises to a height of eleven millimetres, its curves and curves-within-curves engraved or cast into a slightly elevated face that catches light without demanding it. Sterling silver, at its characteristic cool lustre, is the only right material for a piece like this: it does not compete with the sacred geometry it carries. Weighing just six grams, the ring sits with the ease of something worn daily, a devotional object that is also, simply, a beautiful one. The band is sized at 9.5, a mid-range fit suited to the ring or middle finger. Wear it on a quiet morning with a handloom cotton kurta and bare ears, letting the symbol do all the speaking. Or pair it with a Banarasi dupatta and minimal gold studs for a festive occasion where restraint is its own kind of elegance. The eleven-millimetre face is generous without being architectural. Sterling silver develops a gentle patina with wear, which only deepens the engraved detail over time. A soft cloth restores its original brightness whenever you choose. One size is currently available.
