Description

There are syllables older than script, and this pendant carries one of them. Cast in sterling silver and shaped into the sacred Om (Aum) symbol, this piece draws on a lineage of devotional silverwork that has moved quietly through Indian craft for centuries. The motif itself is rendered with clarity rather than ornamentation: the curved forms of the Devanagari character are clean, the surface given a finish that catches light without demanding it. At roughly one inch in height (approximately 2.5 cm) and 0.7 inches across (approximately 1.8 cm), the pendant sits close to the body, intimate rather than declarative. Weighing just two grams, it is silver worked with the restraint that devotional objects have always preferred to spectacle. Sterling silver, with its cool, honest lustre, suits this symbol particularly well. It is a metal that patinas gently with wear, growing more personal over time. Wear it on a fine silver chain with an ivory cotton kurta for daily prayer or meditation mornings. It is equally considered beneath a silk blouse at a puja gathering, where its quiet symbolism reads as intention rather than ornament. At two grams, the pendant places no burden on the neck and is suited to continuous, everyday wear. The free-size bail accommodates both delicate chains and slightly heavier ones. Sterling silver benefits from occasional polishing with a soft cloth to maintain its characteristic brightness and to honour the craft it represents.
