Description

He dances at the edge of time, and now he rests at your lapel. The Nataraja is among the most philosophically charged images in all of Indian iconography: Shiva mid-anandatandava, one leg raised, the damru sounding creation into being, the ring of fire encircling his cosmic stillness. This brooch renders that vision in cast brass, warm and aureous, with the characteristic weight and depth that only metal casting can deliver. At 2.25 inches tall and 1.4 inches wide (approximately 5.7 cm by 3.6 cm), the piece holds every detail of the canonical form: the flying locks, the lifted foot, the damru held aloft. Weighing just over 13 grams, it sits with reassuring presence without pulling at fine fabric. The finish is a burnished antiqued brass, its colour deepening in the recesses, catching light on the raised planes. Brooches of this character belong to a long South Indian and Bengali tradition of devotional adornment, where the sacred and the sartorial have never been truly separate. Wear it at the centre of a silk handloom blouse, plain ivory or deep temple-red, and the Nataraja becomes the centrepiece. It reads equally well on the lapel of a linen kurta for a cultural evening or a Kuchipudi or Bharatanatyam performance where its subject and your setting share a language. The brooch pin closure is sturdy and practical. Free size means no adjustment is needed. The brass requires only a soft cloth to maintain its warmth. This is a piece for daily devotion as much as ceremony.
