Description

Narasimha does not reside in temples alone; he lives in silver, in the hands of those who know how to call him forth. This pendant renders the leonine face of Narasimha, the fourth avatar of Vishnu, in sterling silver, working within a devotional tradition that stretches from the rock-cut sanctuaries of South India to the silver-working ateliers of Bengal and Tamil Nadu. The face is cast with deliberate attention to iconographic precision: the mane fanning outward, the fierce yet protective expression held in stillness. Sterling silver, valued for its cool lustre and its faithfulness to fine detail, allows the raised surface work to read clearly at this intimate scale. At one point two five inches tall by zero point eight five inches wide (approximately three point two centimetres by two point two centimetres), with a depth of zero point three five inches and a weight of six and a half grams, the piece sits close to the body without weight or fuss. Worn on a fine silver chain against a cream or ivory chanderi kurta, it becomes a quiet act of devotion. Equally, layered with rudraksha beads or a thin gold-filled chain, it speaks to the contemporary collector who wears faith as considered personal style. The pendant is finished in the natural bright polish of sterling silver, which deepens with wear into a gentle patina. It suits all necklines at this compact size and requires only occasional silver cloth buffing to maintain its surface.
