Description

There are faces that do not merely ornament , they protect. Narasimha, the fourth avatar of Vishnu, appears here in sterling silver: his lion's mane rendered in high-relief, his fierce brow and open mouth carrying the full dramatic weight of Vaishnava iconography. The pendant belongs to a devotional silversmithing tradition practised across temple towns from Nagercoil in the deep south to the artisan quarters of Bengal, where silver is treated not as a luxury metal but as a sacred one. At 7.1 grams and measuring approximately 3.2 centimetres in height by 2.2 centimetres in width, the face is commanding without being heavy. The surface reads as oxidised detailing set against polished silver, giving the mane and facial planes their sculptural depth. Sterling silver, being 92.5 per cent pure, wears with a cool, honest lustre that deepens rather than fades with time. Worn against a plain ivory cotton kurta for daily puja or morning rituals, the pendant becomes a quiet act of devotion. For festive occasions, it sits beautifully against a deep silk angavastram or a fine Maheshwari dupatta, the silver catching candlelight without competing with embroidered borders. Free-sized for a universal fit and suited to chains from fine box-link to a thicker silver cord, the piece is light enough for everyday wear. The sterling construction resists tarnish with minimal care, making it a reliable companion across seasons and occasions.
