Description

There is a quietness to pearl that no other stone can replicate. These sterling silver cufflinks hold that quietness at their centre. Each cufflink is set with a lustrous muted pearl, its surface neither glossy nor flat but somewhere between the two, the way dawn light settles on still water. The sterling silver mount is worked with restraint, framing the pearl without competing with it, in the manner of understated silversmithing traditions that prize the material over the ornament. Pearl has long held a place in Indian jewellery sensibility, from the Hyderabadi baroque strands of Mughal courts to the simpler, devotional pearl work of coastal South Indian temple traditions. Here, that reverence is distilled into something modern and wearable, weighing just nine grams and standing 1.2 inches (approximately 3 centimetres) in height. Wear these at a formal Indian wedding with a silk bandhgala or ivory linen sherwani, where the muted pearl reads as quietly ceremonial. They are equally at home on a business formal shirt beneath a tailored Nehru jacket for a boardroom occasion that calls for presence without ostentation. The cufflinks fasten with a standard toggle back, requiring no adjustment and suiting a standard French cuff with ease. At nine grams, they rest without weight on the wrist. The sterling silver is finished to a soft sheen that will not distract from the pearl, and the free-size toggle back accommodates most cuff openings without modification.
