Description

There is something quietly festive about a belt that moves with you. This belly-chain is strung from a medley of coloured beads, their hues shifting and catching light the way a bazaar in full swing catches the eye. At its heart hangs a single donut-shaped pendant, a motif with roots in tribal and folk jewellery traditions across Rajasthan and Gujarat, where circular forms have long carried meaning: continuity, the wheel, the unbroken. The beads themselves belong to a lineage of strand-work that artisans in Jaipur and Bikaner have practised for generations, threading glass, resin or stone-cut rounds onto flexible cord or wire to create adornments that are simultaneously humble and exuberant. The piece weighs a substantial 163.5 grams and runs to a generous 28.5 inches, approximately 72 centimetres, making it a true free-size accessory that sits comfortably low on most waists. Wear it cinched over a plain ivory cotton kurta at a day festival, letting the dangling donut rest just below the navel. For an evening gathering, layer it over a silk blouse tucked into a mirror-work lehenga skirt, where the beads echo the embedded glass without competing with embroidery. The free-size length means it drapes rather than pinches, and the secure closure allows for easy fastening without assistance. The multi-colour palette works across seasons, moving from summer whites to winter jewel tones with equal ease and no special upkeep required.
