Description

There is a quiet authority in silver that has always suited the hair. This brooch is worked in sterling silver, its face set with masonite stones that sit in close-set collets, catching light the way dew catches on a morning leaf. The silhouette is compact and architectural: approximately 1.4 inches wide and 1.2 inches tall (roughly 3.6 cm by 3 cm), with a surface that reads as a careful composition rather than decoration applied in haste. At eleven grams, the piece has genuine presence on the hand before it is pinned. Sterling silver of this weight holds its form, resists the soft bend that lighter gauges are prone to, and develops over time a tone that only real metal can offer. The tradition of silver hair jewellery runs deep across Indian craft, from the silver-working ateliers of Rajasthan to the temple-town silversmiths of Nagercoil, where adornment of the hair was considered as serious a matter as adornment of the throat. Pin it at the crown of a low bun for a formal silk occasion, where its compact geometry reads cleanly against draped fabric. Equally, it settles into a gathered plait worn with a fine cotton kurta, adding intention without effort. The brooch is free size, its standard pin closure fitting most hair types and thicknesses. The sterling silver finish requires only a soft cloth to restore its sheen, making this a piece that rewards daily wear without demanding particular care.
