Description

There is something quietly ceremonial about a mandala rendered in miniature, set flat against the finger like a small act of devotion. Kundan work, that ancient craft of pressing foiled stones into a bed of lac within a gold or gilded frame, here finds an unlikely and democratic home in brass. The mandala face, measuring 1.05 inches in height and 1.10 inches in width (approximately 2.67 cm by 2.79 cm), is built from concentric rings of Kundan-set stones in deep red and forest green, colours that speak directly to the Rajasthani palette beloved in Jaipur's old city ateliers. The brass base, finished to a warm gold tone and weighing 12 grams, carries the setting with surprising solidity. It is the geometry that arrests attention: petals radiating outward from a central point, each stone placed to complete the symmetry, the whole composition held in the Kundan tradition of setting without prongs. Wear this ring with an ivory cotton kurta for a museum opening or an intimate mehendi, letting the red and green stones read as deliberate, almost painterly, accents. It sits equally at ease alongside a silk sari blouse at a festival lunch, where it holds its own against richer metals without straining for attention. The adjustable shank opens to most finger sizes, making it genuinely practical for daily rotation. The brass construction resists the delicacy anxieties of finer pieces, and the closed-back Kundan setting protects the stones from everyday handling.
