Description

There are deities who do not announce themselves; they simply arrive, and the room changes. Mama Dev, a revered folk deity venerated across Rajasthan and parts of central India, is rendered here in sterling silver with a quiet devotion that belongs to the older tradition of votive jewellery. The pendant measures 3.18 cm in height and approximately 2 cm in width, cast and finished by hand to capture the deity's characteristic presence: a frontal face or figure rendered with the compact authority that silversmiths in Rajasthan have long reserved for sacred motifs. Sterling silver, at its 92.5 per cent purity, carries an honest weight of 3.4 grams, enough to feel substantial against the chest without pressing. The surface finish is likely oxidised or antiqued, lending the piece the patina of something inherited rather than recently made, drawing directly from the tradition of devotional silver that once filled puja chambers and pilgrimage stalls alike. Wear it on a plain silver chain against a cream chanderi kurta for a Thursday puja or a quiet family gathering. For the diaspora, it pairs with equal grace over a simple white cotton shirt, an understated declaration of where one belongs. At free size with a standard bail fit, the pendant accepts most chains between 1 and 3 mm in thickness. Sterling silver requires only occasional polishing with a soft cloth. At Rs 3,090, this is devotion worn close.
