Description

There are stones that carry the earth's own patience within them, and malachite is one. This pendant is set in sterling silver, its frame shaped to hold a single tablet of banded malachite whose concentric rings of forest green shift from deep viridian to pale celadon depending on the light. The silhouette is elongated and architectural, measuring 2.2 inches (approximately 5.6 cm) in height and 0.8 inches (approximately 2 cm) in width, the silver worked into a clean bezel setting that lets the stone speak without interruption. At 10 grams, it carries a quiet, satisfying weight. Sterling silver, chosen here for its cool lustre and its compatibility with the stone's cool tones, has a long history in Indian craft traditions as a ground for cabochon-cut semi-precious stones, particularly in Rajasthan, where silversmiths have long understood how to frame a stone so that its natural pattern becomes the ornament itself. Wear it against the neckline of an ivory Chanderi kurta for an afternoon gathering, or let it rest against a deep indigo linen shirt for an evening where understatement is the point. The green reads equally well against warm skin tones and cool ones, making it a reliable companion for both formal and casual occasions. The bezel closure is secure and unobtrusive, and the pendant is free size, fitting any standard chain. The sterling silver will benefit from occasional polishing with a soft cloth to maintain its brightness.
