Description

She rides the white bull into stillness, and the silver remembers every line. Mahagauri, the eighth form of Navadurga, is rendered here in sterling silver with the quiet authority that belongs to devotional silverwork at its most considered. The goddess is seated upon Nandi, her vehicle and symbol of dharmic steadiness, the entire scene held within a pendant that measures just 1.25 inches in height by 1 inch in width (approximately 3.2 cm by 2.5 cm). At 5.62 grams, the piece carries real presence without weight. The relief work speaks to a tradition of narrative silversmithing practised across Bengal and Rajasthan, where skilled hands coax figures from flat sheet metal, layering detail into garments, jewels and the bull's broad flank. The silver finish is bright and unpatinated, allowing the raised motif to catch light cleanly against the surrounding field. No stone is set; the craft relies entirely on form and line. Worn on a fine silver chain, this pendant suits a silk kurta in ivory or pale gold for Navratri puja, when carrying the goddess close to the body holds particular meaning. It reads with equal grace against a linen shirt for a diaspora wearer marking the occasion with understated devotion. The piece is free size by nature of its pendant form. Sterling silver requires only occasional gentle cleaning to maintain its brightness. The compact silhouette makes it comfortable for daily wear, and the motif ensures it is never merely decorative.
