Description

There are devotions that travel closer to the heart when they are worn there. This pendant belongs to the living tradition of South Indian temple jewellery, where the divine is rendered not as symbol but as presence. Cast in sterling silver and worked with the precision that the finest karigar workshops of Nagercoil and the Tamil temple-craft belt have long sustained, it depicts Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi seated in serene congress upon Garuda, their celestial vahana, his wings unfurled in protective benediction. The figures are rendered in high relief, each detail of crown, shankha and lotus drawn with the deliberate hand of devotional craft. Sterling silver at this weight carries a particular gravity: at fourteen and a half grams, the pendant holds its form firmly, never feeling slight. The silhouette measures four and a half centimetres in height by approximately three point eight centimetres in width (1.75 inches by 1.5 inches), a scale considered neither discreet nor overwhelming but precisely altar-sized for the chest. Worn on a fine silver chain over a deep-bordered Kanjivaram for a festival puja, it reads as heirloom. Paired with a cream-coloured cotton kurta on an ordinary Tuesday, it carries the same quiet authority, the kind that requires no occasion to justify itself. The pendant comes in a single free size and suits most chain gauges. The silver's satin finish resists harsh tarnish with minimal care, and the bale is proportioned to accept chains of standard Indian jewellery width without straining.
