Description

There are households where Shiva, Parvati and Ganesha are not merely deities but the grammar of daily devotion. This pendant renders the holy family in sterling silver, the figures seated together in a composition that has been carved and repoussed by hand into a tableau roughly 3.8 centimetres tall and 2.5 centimetres wide. Sterling silver, with its cool, oxidised depth, suits this subject particularly well: the darkened recesses of the relief throw the divine forms into relief, giving the piece the quality of a votive panel from a South Indian or Rajasthani shrine workshop. The finish is antique, not polished to a mirror, so the silver carries a lived-in warmth. At 9.55 grams, the pendant has genuine presence in the hand without pulling heavily at the throat. The bail is proportioned for both fine chains and slightly heavier silver cords. Wear it against the undyed cotton of a daytime kurta, where its quiet gravity feels devotional rather than decorative. On a festival evening, it sits with equal assurance over a Kanjivaram or a Banarasi silk, the oxidised silver reading richly against deep jewel tones. The free-size bail accommodates most standard chain gauges, and the pendant requires no specialist care: a soft cloth, away from moisture, preserves the antique finish. A piece of this weight and intention is as suited to everyday devotion as it is to the ceremonial.
