Description

There are deities one wears as devotion, and deities one wears as declaration. Cast in warm, antique-finished brass, this brooch carries a finely carved relief of Lord Shiva in his iconic meditative form, his crescent moon and matted locks rendered with a precision that speaks to the long tradition of devotional metalwork practised across Rajasthan and the Deccan. Brass, long favoured for sacred objects before gold was accessible to all, holds its warmth without pretension. At 2.3 inches in height and 1.75 inches in width (approximately 5.8 cm by 4.4 cm), the piece is substantial enough to command attention without overpowering the garment beneath it. The relief carving has depth and shadow, suggesting hand-finished tooling rather than flat machine pressing. At 20.5 grams, it settles with a pleasing solidity. On a cream or ivory silk kurta worn for Mahashivratri or a morning puja gathering, it reads as quiet reverence. Pinned to the lapel of a structured raw-silk jacket at a cultural evening, it becomes a studied, personal statement for the collector who wears their faith with restraint. The standard pin-back closure suits most woven and structured fabrics without snagging. Free size, as a brooch naturally is, it requires no adjustment. The antique brass finish resists the harshest of overhead lighting, ageing gently with wear rather than tarnishing abruptly. A soft cloth is all it asks.
