Description

There are faces that hold entire cosmologies. Narasimha, the fourth avatara of Vishnu, emerges here in sterling silver with the composed ferocity that the iconographic tradition demands: the leonine countenance rendered in careful relief, the mane suggested by the frame of the face, the divine gaze fixed and centred. This is antique-finish silversmithing at its most devotional, a craft sensibility rooted in the temple-jewellery traditions of South India, where such pendants were once made to adorn the faithful as much as the deity. The oxidised surface deepens every carved recess, pulling the lion-face forward from its background and giving the piece the weight of age it has earned through intention rather than time. At 9.86 grams and approximately 3 centimetres tall by 1.65 centimetres wide in the standard size, the presence is notable without being heavy. Wear it against a crisp off-white cotton kurta for morning prayer or a festival visit to the temple, where the darkened silver reads as quietly sacred. For evening, pair it on a fine silver chain over a deep-hued silk blouse beneath a Kanjivaram drape, where the antique finish holds its own beside elaborate weave. The pendant is offered across four size variants, from the compact 0.45 inch (1.14 cm) width of the smaller vintage to the fuller 1.2 inch (3.05 cm) height of the standard, and arrives finished to be worn directly, requiring no resizing.
