Description

There are deities one prays to, and there are deities one carries close to the heart. Cast in sterling silver and finished with the kind of controlled oxidisation that deepens every relief, this pendant renders Lord Narasimha, the half-lion avatara of Vishnu, in devotional sculptural detail. The form follows the iconographic tradition of South Indian temple jewellery, where the divine is never abstracted but always precise: the leonine crown, the fierce upward gaze, the broad shoulders tapering into a composed lower silhouette. At roughly four centimetres in height and just over two centimetres in width (1.6 inches by 0.85 inches), the composition is intimate rather than imposing. The sterling silver, weighing 10.8 grams, holds its oxidised finish firmly, ensuring the recessed lines read with sculptural clarity rather than disappearing into plain polished metal. Worn on a fine black silk cord, this pendant sits well against the collarbone with a cotton kurta in ivory or cream, letting the dark silver speak without competition. It would suit equally a silk blouse worn beneath a Kanjivaram on Ekadashi or any occasion of personal devotion. Free-sized for all, the pendant requires only the cord or chain of your choosing. The oxidised sterling silver resists tarnish reasonably well with minimal care, and the compact weight makes it genuinely wearable through a long day of ritual or travel, without strain or self-consciousness.
