Description

There are devotions that take flight, and this one is cast in silver. Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, appears here in an unusual avatar: wings unfurled at his shoulders, trunk curled gently to one side, the whole figure rendered in sterling silver through detailed lost-wax casting. The winged form is rare in devotional silversmithing, drawing on a syncretic imagination that has long existed at the edges of temple jewellery traditions, where craftsmen in centres like Nagercoil and Bikaner occasionally merge celestial and deity iconography into a single, charged image. The pendant measures 1.2 inches by 1.2 inches (roughly 3 cm by 3 cm) and weighs 11 grams, a satisfying heft for a piece this compact. The silver carries an oxidised finish that throws the relief carving into sharp contrast, deepening the feather detail of the wings and the fine facial modelling of the deity. Worn on a simple silver box chain, this pendant reads quietly against a white cotton kurta for a morning of intention, or against a silk blouse at a puja gathering where understated devotion matters more than display. It moves easily from the personal to the ceremonial without demanding attention. The piece is free-sized as a pendant, suited to chains of most standard gauges. At 11 grams, it sits close to the chest without pulling. The oxidised sterling silver requires only occasional buffing with a soft cloth to maintain its character.
