Description

He sits in perfect stillness, one hand raised in the gesture of knowledge, and the silver remembers every line. Dakshinamurti is Shiva as the silent teacher, the guru who instructs through eloquent quietude rather than word. This two-sided sterling-silver pendant honours that paradox with quiet devotion: the obverse carries a finely pressed relief of the deity seated beneath the banyan tree, flanked by rishis and framed within an arched cartouche, while the reverse bears the sacred syllable OM in a complementary register. The tradition of devotional silver pendants has long flourished across temple-jewellery centres in South India, particularly in the workshops near Nagercoil and the older silver-smithing lanes of Tamil Nadu, where artisans understand that sacred iconography demands precise, unhurried hands. Worked in sterling silver and weighing exactly five grams, the piece carries its faith lightly without excess ornament. The silhouette measures approximately 3.6 cm in height and 2 cm in width, a proportion that sits with natural authority at the throat. Wear it on a fine silver chain over an ivory silk kurta for daily puja or a festive Karthigai gathering; it is equally considered against the neckline of a cream cotton sari during a temple visit or a family ceremony where restraint speaks louder than abundance. At five grams, the pendant rests without weight on the chest. Sterling silver polishes easily with a soft cloth and retains its cool lustre through daily devotion, making this a piece genuinely suited to every morning.
