Description

There are pendants, and then there are objects that arrest a room. This large oval pendant in sterling silver is a study in the art of surface. Measuring approximately ten centimetres in height and nearly seven centimetres in width, it commands presence without apology. At its centre sits a deep black onyx, cool and absolute, held within a setting that lets the stone speak first. Radiating outward across the entire face of the pendant is an engraved pattern of considered precision: fine lines, geometric flourishes and repeating motifs worked directly into the silver, a technique that recalls the chased silverwork traditions of Rajasthan and the repoussé heritage of Bengal. The finish is burnished to a quiet lustre rather than a mirror shine, so the engraving reads as shadow and light rather than mere decoration. At sixty-five grams, the piece has genuine heft; it lies against the chest with authority. Worn over a deep-necked ivory kurta for a literary evening, the pendant becomes the sole jewel needed. Paired with a silk crêpe blouse and wide-leg trousers for a gallery opening, it translates the vocabulary of craft into contemporary ease. The pendant is crafted in sterling silver and carries a standard free size bail to accommodate chains of varying thicknesses.
